What are your terms of business?
Our terms of business are designed to meet your individual
needs and will vary slightly dependent on the nature of the
matter which we are asked to help you with. The terms of
business are available upon request and will be sent out
to you in any event, once you instruct us to act on your
behalf.
How are your fees calculated?
We are happy to discuss with you the amount of our fees and
the way in which they are calculated.
Broadly, there are two methods which we utilise:
-
The first is by applying an hourly rate to the time taken.
This is then invoiced on a monthly basis which we agree and
set out in our terms of business.
-
The second method is according to the value of the work.
Time/value-related fees vary according to individual fee-earner's
rate per hour.
Value Added Tax and out-of-pocket expenses, which are known
as 'disbursements', are charged in addition. We will always
use our best endeavours to provide you with an indication as
to the likely fee. For some matters, we are able to provide
full quotations whereas for others, such as litigation, when
the amount of work involved may be difficult to assess, fees
will be reviewed regularly.
What are your opening hours?
Our offices are generally open, Monday to Friday, as follows:
London 9.00am to 5.30pm
Newbury 8.30am to 6.00pm
You can always contact the offices out of hours by leaving
a message on our telephone system, sending a fax, emailing
us or filling out our online form.
Is it possible for you to visit me at my home?
We will visit Clients at home by prior arrangements. In addition,
whilst members of our various departments may be based in one
of our offices, they will travel to other offices to see Clients
by prior arrangement.
Do you undertake criminal work?
We do not have a designated criminal law department. We can,
however, arrange for Clients to have representation in matters
such as alleged road traffic offences, e.g. speeding. Please
speak to our Dispute Resolution and Litigation Department.
Can I apply for Legal Aid?
Legal Aid is now known as Public Funding. We do not have a
franchise with the Legal Services Commission and are therefore
unable to offer this service to you. You may be eligible, subject
to your capital and income. Those details can be found on the
website of the Legal Services Commission - www.legalservices.gov.uk/calculator/index.htm.
If you do find that you are eligible for Public Funding, your
local library or Citizens Advice Bureau will be able to provide
you with a list of solicitors in your area who provide that
service.
